The organizing authority is the Sylvan Lake Sailing Club (SLSC) in conjunction
with the Canadian Yachting Association (CYA)
NOTICE OF RACE
1.0 RULES
1.1. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of
Sailing 2009 – 2012, the prescriptions of the Canadian Yachting Association,
International Martin Class Association (IMCA) Rules, Sailing Instructions and
any amendments.
1.2. Outboard motors shall not be removed from transom while racing.
1.3. In the event of conflict between languages the English text shall take
precedence.
2.0 ADVERTISING
2.1. The organizing authority may require all participating boats to display the
event sponsor’s advertising in accordance with Regulation 20.3(d)(i).
3.0 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
3.1. The regatta is open to all women who are members of ISAF Member National
Authorities.
3.2. Eligible teams may enter by completing the official entry form, and paying
the registration fee.
3.3. A team shall consist of a skipper and up to three (3) crew.
3.4. There will be a maximum of fifteen (15) boats.
3.5. Registration opens March 1, 2012 @ 1900 hrs. UTC (12:00 pm MST).
3.6. Teams shall register on-line at
www.sylvan.ws
3.7. Entries will be time stamped electronically upon receipt. Should there be
fifteen (15) or fewer entries by the early closing date, all entries will be
accepted and registered for the regatta. If there should be more than fifteen
(15) entries, acceptance into the regatta will be as follows:
3.7.1 Upon completion of Early Registration, March 31, 2012 @ 1900 UTC, the
registration queue will be reviewed and the first registered team of each
Province will then be accepted.
3.7.2 The queue will again be reviewed in time stamped order for the next
registered team of each Province and will then be accepted.
3.7.3 This process will continue until the queue contains registrations of a
single Province. At this time registrations will be accepted in time stamped order
until all available entries are filled.
3.7.4 On April 1st, 2012 teams will be notified of regatta acceptance or queue
position. If required, a standby queue will be formed as per registration time
stamp. Upon any withdrawal from the primary queue, the first registration from
the standby queue will be accepted. This process will remain in affect until
August 1, 2012 @ 1900 UTC.
3.7.5 Upon acceptance notification from the registrar, the team will then
forward all required fees as per 4.0 post marked no later than 14 days past
notification.
3.7.6 Queue orders will be available @

3.8. Competitors will be required to present proof of membership with an ISAF
Member National Authority at check-in. For competitors with membership of the
CYA, a CYA or club membership card will be sufficient proof.
3.9. Teams must submit a brief sailing resume for the skipper and each crew
member by early registration closing or receipt of late registration.
4.0 FEES
4.1. Registration fee is $600.00 (Canadian dollars) per team. Refunds will be
honored up to April 15, 2012 @ 1900 UTC.
4.2. A $500 refundable damage deposit will be required from each team.
4.3. Payment for registration fee and damage deposit shall be made by separate
cheques payable to the Sylvan Lake Sailing Club, PO Box 9008 Sylvan Lake,
Alberta, T4S-1S6 Attn: Registration Committee. Damage deposits will be held in a
trust account and refunded post event.
5.0 BOATS
5.1. The event will be sailed in Martin 242’s.
5.2. All boats will be provided by the host Club.
5.3. All boats will be allocated by random draw, boat owners will not be
permitted to race their own boat.

7.0 MEASUREMENT
7.1. All boats will be inspected prior to ensure class measurement requirements.
7.2. The Regatta Organizing Committee will attempt to match all boats as
reasonably practicable.
8.0 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
8.1. The Sailing Instructions will be available at 1700 hrs MST Thursday August
30th at the check-in desk.
9.0 VENUE
9.1. Racing will be conducted in the South-East area of the Sylvan Lake.
10.0 THE COURSES
10.1. The courses to be sailed will be Windward/Leeward.
11.0 PENALTY SYSTEM
11.1. Rule 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the
One-Turn Penalty.
12.0 SCORING
12.1. One (1) race must be completed to constitute a series.
12.2. When fewer than five (5) races have been completed, a boats score will be
the total of her race scores.
12.3. When five (5) or more races have been completed, a boats score will be the
total of her race scores, excluding her worst score.
12.4. When Nine (9) or more races have been completed, a boats score will be the
total of her race scores, excluding her two (2) worst scores.
13.0 HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS
13.1. Boats shall not be hauled out during the series except with and according
to the terms of prior written permission of the Race Committee.
14.0 RADIO COMMUNICATION
14.1. Radio communications will be carried out on VHF Channel 06. Skippers are
recommended to bring their own VHF marine band hand held radio.
14.2. Prior to and during each start sequence the Race Committee will make
announcements on VHF Channel 06, every effort will be made to inform boats
observed by the Race Committee to be OCS. This changes rule 41.
14.3. Any radio communication by the Race Committee, any naming or misnaming of
boats and/or their numbers, colors, designs, logos, or shapes cannot be used as
evidence in any subsequent redress hearing. This changes rule 62.1(a).
15.0 PRIZES
15.1. CYA will recognize the top three (3) finishers.
15.2. The Canadian Women’s Keelboat Championship Trophy will be awarded to the
top Canadian finisher.
16.0 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
16.1. Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk - see
Rule 4: Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability
for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with,
prior to, during, or after the regatta.
17.0 INSURANCE
17.1. Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability
insurance with a minimum cover of one (1) million dollars per event or
equivalent. The host club will provide said coverage.
